Investing in our K-12 education and colleges & universities is vital to continued success in the Commonwealth. We're very fortunate that Loudoun and Prince William counties have great public schools. The 13th District is home to 5 of the top high schools in America (according to Newsweek magazine). We must continue to support these great schools while also raising the level of our other schools in the district. We need to continue to work for lower class sizes, and retaining the best and brightest teachers to ensure that all of our students are prepared for the 21st Century economy and the jobs of the future. To be fiscally responsible now and in the future, we must insure our students have the best opportunities to succeed.

As Senator, I will work to:

* Make sure the state provides adequate funding so that our kids aren't being taught in over-crowded classrooms or trailers.
* Increase the focus on STEM education.
* Bring our teachers salaries up to at least the national average. By doing this, we will be able to recruit and retain the best teachers for our children.
* Oppose cuts to K-12 and Higher Education funding. Our great public schools are one of the main reasons why so many families and businesses relocate to Virginia. If we are to keep Virginia the 'Best State to Do Business' in, we need to continue to keep our schools the best in the nation.
