Last Thursday, the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) took formal action to designate a segment of US 77 from I-37 in Corpus Christi to SH44 in Robstown as Interstate 69. Congressman Blake Farenthold (TX-27) had the following comments:
"Development of I-69 is crucial to the growth and economic development of South Texas. The Rio Grande Valley is the largest metropolitan area in the country that does not have access to the interstate highway system. Extending I-69 to the Valley will create jobs, improve safety, and reduce travel times. The upgrade of US 77 is a model for completing I-69."
As the only Republican Representative from Texas on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, one of Rep. Farenthold's highest priorities is the development of I-69 in South Texas. He is working to include language in the Transportation Reauthorization bill which will make it easier for future completed sections of US 59, US 77 and US 281 to be upgraded to interstate standard.
