As a member of the Commerce & Labor Committee, Jennifer has focused on efforts to conserve Virginia's natural resources and promote renewable energy and green jobs. She has also consistently supported funding for combined sewer overflow projects in the cities of Lynchburg and Richmond, water quality improvement, cleanup of the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia's park system, and conservation of Virginia land.
For her efforts, Jennifer has been named a Legislative Hero by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters several times.
Jennifer has sponsored legislation to implement key recommendations of the Governor's Climate Change Commission to:
* Increase the renewable portfolio standard goal to 15% by 2025;
* Require electric utilities to offer to customers real-time variable rates, first as a pilot to ensure that costs are not shifted between customers, and then to all customers; and
* Provide incentives to utilities to make efficiency investments before building new power plants.
Jennifer has also worked to pass legislation implementing Governor Kaine's Renew Virginia program, which encompasses actions on renewable energy, energy conservation, green jobs, and efforts to protect Virginia's environment.
