Congressman Tim Scott (SC-01) today released the following statement upon reports of the death of former Libyan dictator Muammar el-Qaddafi.

"After months of intense fighting, I am optimistic Qaddafi's death will serve as a pivotal moment for Libya moving forward. Today signals an opportunity for all Libyans to come together and rebuild their country while working towards a democracy long overdue, and for the United States to stand behind them in those efforts.

By bringing him to justice, I am hopeful that today provides some closure for family members of the victims of the Lockerbie bombing, who were senselessly killed nearly 23 years ago."
