Congressman Rivera made the following statement on Thursday, following reports that former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi was killed:
"Today is a day to stand in solidarity with those brave men and women who have been fighting for freedom and liberty, not just in Libya, but across the Middle East, whether it be women fighting for the right to drive or vote in Saudi Arabia or those who are struggling to preserve the nascent democracy in Iraq or those struggling against the dictatorship in Iran. Across the Middle East we are seeing a wave of hope, of change that is represented by the recent events in Libya.
"I agree wholeheartedly that this is a tremendously positive event for those who are struggling for freedom and democracy throughout the region. Now is the time to continue to express solidarity with those in Libya and across the region that are fighting for that type of democracy and freedom for their people."
