Obama Administration Must Strongly Rebuke Chavez's Latest anti-Democratic Actions

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Connie Mack (FL-14) responded to news that Venezuela's Hugo Chavez will reject the September 16th ruling by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, or IACHR, ordering Venezuela to re-establish candidate Leopoldo Lopez's political rights as a challenging candidate to Chavez.

Mack stated: "Hugo Chavez continues to show his true colors as an anti-freedom, anti-democratic thugocrat, and the Obama Administration remains silent. If not in the wake of the latest injustice by Chavez, when will the Obama Administration develop a method for sanctioning individuals in Venezuela who carry out Chavez's dirty work? Venezuela has become a narco-terrorist state under the corrupt rule of Chavez and must be named a State Sponsor of Terrorism."
