As your representative, it is important that I keep you well informed of the federal issues that will impact you. To the seniors in our community, you must be provided with the information you need to make important decisions regarding your health care benefits.
Each year, Medicare subscribers get an open enrollment period to explore new choices in Medicare and select the plans that work best for them. This is also a time for newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries to select a health and prescription drug plan. October 15th to December 7th of this year marks the Medicare open enrollment period for 2012.
This will give seniors a full seven weeks to review, compare, and decide on their healthcare plans before January 1, 2012, when their new coverage starts. These plans can change from year to year, so please be well informed of such changes when making these important decisions. If you have any questions I encourage you to visit www.medicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
I firmly believe that every American, and especially our senior citizens, should have access to quality medical care. Rest assured that I will continue to fight to protect Medicare benefits and work to increase healthcare accessibility for all Americans.
