Congressman Kenny Marchant issued the following release after the U.S. House of Representatives passed three Free Trade Agreements (FTA):
"Today's passage of the Free Trade Agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea is an important -- and long awaited -- step to creating more American jobs. Texas' 24th Congressional District is poised to benefit tremendously in part because it is a leading hub of regional, national, and global commerce.
"Passage of these FTAs will undoubtedly broaden growth by opening new markets to American goods and services. From machinery and transportation equipment to chemicals and electronics, these free trade agreements will boost exports and create jobs.
"As the home of the DFW International Airport, I expect the 24th District to benefit in large part from the increased exports from DFW to Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. In my District alone, over 111,000 jobs are directly supported by exports.
"Although we have lost export market share during the years waiting to consider the FTAs, I have no doubt that American businesses will find plenty of opportunities to ship their goods to these emerging markets. Texas' businesses, workers, farmers, and ranchers will benefit as the competitive disadvantage American exports face is corrected."
