Congressman Marsha Blackburn issued the following statement today on House passage of H.R. 2273, the Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act of 2011.
"Coal ash serves as a valuable energy resource, which helps keep electricity costs low and can be used for durable construction materials," Blackburn said. "It is important that we ensure the safe management of coal ash, but the excessive regulations proposed by the Obama Administration's EPA would threaten the beneficial use of this resource and put thousands of jobs at risk. This legislation cuts back on over-reaching federal regulations and gives more authority to the states where they know best. It will protect jobs and allow families and businesses in Tennessee to continue to reap the economic benefits."
