Statement from John Kerry Honoring National MIA/POW Recognition Day 2004
For Immediate Release
Senator John Kerry released the following statement:
"On this National MIA/POW Recognition Day, we remember and honor our nation's Prisoners of War and those Americans who are still missing in action. These courageous individuals have fought to keep Americans safe, and their enormous sacrifice should never be forgotten. Many of the 88,000 Americans who are still unaccounted for have endured unthinkable torture or treacherous conditions while serving for our country, and we will forever be indebted to them.
"While many of these individuals have suffered behind enemy lines, their families have continued to struggle with the uncertainty of their situation. On this day, we also honor the tremendous sacrifices of the wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, fathers, and all who have seen a loved one fall into enemy hands or go missing in action. In addition to the sacrifices of our servicemen, we must never forget the strength of their families and the courage and determination they have demonstrated along the way."
