Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement regarding House passage of the Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act (H.R. 2273):

"The main focus of the House Republicans' jobs agenda is to remove the economic uncertainty that holds back small businesses from growing and creating jobs. Onerous regulations from Washington saddle the private sector with new compliance costs that force businesses to spend trillions of dollars every year on complying with Washington red tape and bureaucracy. This is an ineffective use of capital that would otherwise be dedicated to business expansion and new hiring, which is necessary to move our economy forward.

"The Administration's regulation of coal ash has the potential to drive up energy costs and construction costs -- two of the hardest hit sectors of our economy. The increase in costs are estimated to be as much as hundreds of billions of dollars and as many as 300,000 jobs nationwide will be threatened as a result. Reforming and removing unnecessary and burdensome regulations on job creators is common-sense, and today's bipartisan vote highlights the need for the President and Senate Democrats to join us in acting to get Americans back to work."
