Today (Thursday October 13th) the House reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of innocent human life by approving H.R. 358, the "Protect Life Act." Introduced by Congressman Joe Pitts of Pennsylvania, this bipartisan legislation ensures that Obamacare will not use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. The final vote was 251 to 172.
The legislation works by applying the principles of the Hyde amendment, which states that no federal funds will be used pay for an abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.
Said Ros-Lehtinen: "I am pleased that that the House passed this important pro-life legislation. The American people have made it clear that they do not want their taxpayer dollars used to fund abortions. The Protect life Act extends to the President's healthcare reform law the same standards applied to Medicaid, the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, and other federal programs, so that federal dollars are not used to pay for abortions except in extreme cases. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to take action and bring this common sense pro-life legislation up for debate. "
