Chairman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Connie Mack (FL-14) released the following statement regarding an Iranian terrorist plot to hire Mexican drug cartel assassins to kill the Saudi Arabian Ambassador.

Mack Stated: "The United States is under significant threats from the enemies of freedom. The foiled plot of Iran to attack Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the United States proves yet again that Iran has established deep diplomatic, military, and covert operations in the Western Hemisphere.

"Furthermore, this foiled plot demonstrates the internationally recognized threat the Mexican drug cartels pose to the United States. We are now facing a diverse criminal, if not terrorist, insurgency in Mexico that is poised to grow more severe if not actively and properly countered. It is more important than ever to ensure we have a proactive strategy to counter the terrorist insurgency that combines the expertise of every U.S. resource to stop this national security threat."
