October 4, 2011 marks 888 days since the United States Senate has passed a budget. Congressman Bob Gibbs' comments from today's press conference with thirty-six GOP Freshmen calling for Senate action to turn around our economy.

"Good morning. I'm Bob Gibbs from Ohio's 18th Congressional District. I think it's all our job in Congress, our responsibility to keep an environment where the private sector has the confidence to invest and create jobs. One way to create the environment is to break down barriers to job creation, cut the red tape, excessive regulation and also duplicate regulation. I just want to highlight one of the bills from that list and it is HR 872. 872 was passed by a super-majority bipartisan vote in the House in early April. It is sitting in the Senate, passed out of the Agriculture Committee but has not moved out of the Senate. It is important that Harry Reid moves 872 out because if it does not get moved out before the end of this month, the EPA has to put in new regulations because of a bad federal court decision that is going to put oppressive costs on farmers and local governments to protect human health and safety. I urge this 1 member of these 12 bills, they all need to be passed but 872 needs to be passed this month. You talk about bipartisanship, our country wants bipartisanship and here is a bill that was passed by the super majority of the House of Representatives in April and it is held up by one member of the United States Senate from moving to the floor. I urge my colleagues to pass these bills in the Senate and bring back certainty and restore the consumer confidence and business confidence to make those investments and create jobs for our economy."

Congressman Bob Gibbs has passed two bipartisan bills (HR 872, The Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2011 and HR 2018, The Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act) which join more than a dozen pro-jobs bills that have passed the House and are awaiting a vote in the Senate.
