U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement on today's approval by the House Ways and Means Committee of the pending free trade agreements (FTAs) with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea:
"I am very pleased that the Ways and Means Committee under the leadership of Chairman Dave Camp has acted swiftly to approve the pending Colombia, Panama, and South Korea Free Trade Agreements. Chairman Camp has demonstrated strong and consistent leadership in support of these long-delayed agreements.
"Although I am greatly relieved that all three FTAs were passed by this key Committee, I'm saddened that the U.S-Colombia agreement received so many votes against it even though it will create jobs, and even though Colombia has been our strong democratic partner and a reliable force against narco-guerrillas and extremists.
"I look forward to the House debate next week, where I am optimistic that each of these job-creating agreements will be approved."
