Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-19) was named a Taxpayer Hero by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste for his votes in 2010. The ratings were announced last week.
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste used 46 House tax and spending votes to determine their ratings. Shimkus received a score of 89 percent, earning him the Taxpayer Hero title.
"I am honored to be recognized for my votes," Shimkus stated. "I always talk about having been raised in this district and having similar values to those I represent.
"I think this rating is an indicator of how the people of central and southern Illinois would vote -- given the chance -- on keeping taxes low and stopping wasteful spending."
