McCarthy Statement On House Passage of the Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act

Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement on House passage of the Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 2681):

"House Republicans are focused on bringing legislation to the floor that will help get our economy growing again and get people back to work. That's exactly what we intend to do by preventing the Cement MACT regulation from threatening over a hundred cement plants and thousands of jobs nationwide. This specific regulation threatens three cement plants in my district alone, whose costs will increase by tens of millions of dollars and could jeopardize nearly four hundred jobs. Cement MACT will also drive up the cost of cement which will negatively impact other hard hit sectors of the economy such as construction. While we all support protecting our local air quality and environment, this regulation goes too far and is beyond any rational cost-benefit analysis.

"Private sector businesses need Washington to move away from the 'tax, regulate and spend' agenda of the last three years that has led to the economic uncertainty businesses and hard working families face today. The President should join House Republicans in focusing on removing government-manufactured barriers that are currently holding back new business start-ups and new investments in existing businesses."
