Senator Blunt: Senator Reid Changed The Rules Because He Knew Johanns Amendment Would Pass

Statement

Date: Oct. 6, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement tonight regarding Majority Leader Harry Reid's (Nev.) decision to change the rules in the U.S. Senate tonight:

"Clearly, Majority Leader Reid knew that Senator Johanns's amendment would pass the Senate tonight. That's why he went so far as to change the rules in order to block this vote.

"This amendment that I cosponsored would undo the Obama Administration's attempts to regulate so-called "fugitive dust' on farms in Missouri and across America. Having grown up on a farm, I understand that you cannot farm without dust. The EPA's attempts to regulate this basic component of the agriculture industry will hurt countless job creators nationwide.

"But instead of allowing a simple up or down vote on this and other amendments that would help American job creators, Senator Reid changed the very rules of this legislative body."
