House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after reports that UNESCO's Executive Board will soon consider granting the Palestinian leadership's request for full membership.

"This continued effort by the Palestinian leadership is absolutely unacceptable, and the United States must be direct in our words and our deeds making clear that efforts to thwart the peace process will not be tolerated," said Chairman Price. "UNESCO ought to refrain from pursuing this dangerous path because it will not lead to peace and stability. It does nothing to solve the disputes between the two parties. The United States has encouraged all involved to return to the negotiating table without conditions and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has said he agrees. The Palestinians should do the same. Direct negotiations is where real peace can be achieved. The UN ought not stand in the way of peace by continuing to entertain the Palestinian leadership's latest plan."
