Governor Robert Bentley today released the following statement regarding Navistar's decision to lease the National Alabama railcar plant in Colbert County:
"I am thrilled to welcome Navistar to northwest Alabama and look forward to the start of operations at the railcar plant in Colbert County. This has the potential to be one of the largest economic development projects in the United States and will transform northwest Alabama. I have been working together with RSA, local, and state officials on this project for a long time.
It has been a long road for this area between the railcar plant groundbreaking and today's announcement. This project will bring a large number of high paying jobs that the people of northwest Alabama need and deserve.
Navistar's announcement confirms what we all know: Alabama is the best state in the nation to do business. Today's announcement is the result of a tremendous team effort involving public and private officials who are committed to putting Alabamians back to work. We are pleased to expand and strengthen our relationship with Navistar and I appreciate their commitment to Alabama."
