I want to quickly update you on some important legislation I recently signed on to cosponsor in the House of Representatives.
Since coming to Washington, I have been a strong proponent of efforts to restore fiscal sanity to our nation and get our spending and deficit under control. To this end, I have cosponsored Congressman Connie Mack's (R-FL) One Percent Spending Reduction Act (H.R.1848), also known as the "Mack Penny Plan." To read more about this interesting proposal I encourage you to visit Congressman Mack's website.
I am also a strong supporter of term limits for our elected officials, and am now a cosponsor of Representative David Schweikert's (R-AZ) H.J. Res. 71 regarding this issue. This joint resolution would limit the number of terms that a Member of Congress may serve to three (3) in the House of Representatives and two (2) in the Senate.
Finally, I have signed on to the Realize America's Maritime Promise (RAMP) Act (HR 104), introduced by Congressman Charles Boustany (R-LA), who incidentally was the previous occupant of my office in the Longworth House Office building in Washington. As Mr. Boustany explains, this bill will "ensure that funds designated for dredging projects in America's harbors and ports will be used solely for this purpose." This is certainly an important issue for us here in the First District, especially as work expanding the Panama Canal's capabilities moves towards completion.
Rest assured I will continue to advocate for conservative ideals here in Washington, and look forward to next week as the House resumes our efforts to create jobs and remove burdensome regulations from the backs of our job creators.
