Dreier Applauds Submission of Long-Pending FTAs, Says Rules Stands Poised to Advance TAA Legislation

Location: Unknown

Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier (R-CA) said the submission of the three long-pending Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea as well as the announced Rules Committee action on H.R. 2832, the Trade Adjustment Assistance Extension Act of 2011, should set the stage for their ultimate approval in the very near future.

"With our economy stuck in neutral, approval of the Colombia, Panama, and South Korea FTAs is more than urgent, it is an essential element to any effort at job creation. After nearly four years of languishing, it is past time we enact these FTAs so that American goods and services have access to these markets and jobs can be created across the U.S. We cannot afford to wait any longer. The advancement of the TAA/GSP legislation, as well as the submission of the FTAs is welcome news to those of us who have been seeking their approval in both good and bad economic times. It's my hope that all of these measures enjoy bipartisan support and are approved without delay."

NOTE: The House Rules Committee is set to advance H.R. 2832 this evening. The Committee will need to meet again to advance the three Free Trade Agreements for further consideration.
