U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement, today praised the House Judiciary Committee's vote to approve the Legal Workforce Act.
The bill was approved by the committee on a 22-13 vote. It now goes to the full House for consideration.
"When fully implemented, The Legal Workforce Act will open up as many as 7 million jobs now worked by illegal immigrants for Americans," Gallegly said. "It mandates that all employers in the United States use E-Verify, an easy-to-use, accurate and free Internet-based employee verification system. It will replace the cumbersome and costly I-9 forms that employers now must use to verify the eligibility of an employee to work in the U.S."
