Statement

Date: Sept. 14, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

ongressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) released the following statement in response the announcement made by NASA today to proceed with development of the Space Launch System (SLS):

"Today's announcement by NASA to move forward with the development of the Space Launch System is a great step forward in maintaining America's leadership in human space flight. However, it is long overdue and I am eager to see the details of this decision. I will work to ensure that NASA proceeds with the 130-metric ton SLS plan passed by Congress. I am proud that the SLS will be managed in Alabama and will put the best and the brightest scientists and engineers in our great state to work on this critical venture. I will continue to monitor the situation and continue the fight to keep human space flight funded at appropriate levels as an American priority."

Aderholt currently serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security for the powerful House Appropriations Committee, is a member of the Committee's Commerce, Justice and Science, which provides funding for NASA; and Agriculture Subcommittees, and also serves on the Helsinki Commission.
