Sessions Addresses Debate Over Disaster Funding In CR

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement today regarding spending offsets for disaster funding in the continuing resolution now under
consideration in the Senate:

"Throughout this year we have seen a stark contrast: Republicans in Congress have tried to responsibly manage the federal budget by reducing those expenditures which are not necessary and by better paying for those which are. Democrats in Congress have resisted these efforts every step of the way. The Senate's Democrat majority argues that we ought not find the money to pay for disaster relief, that we should just
borrow every last penny. But they fail to consider a basic question: how will we recover from future disasters if America borrows its way into bankruptcy? Our budget is nearly $4 trillion; everyone knows we can easily trim enough money elsewhere to quickly pay for this important measure."
