Congressman Steve Scalise today released the following statement after President Barack Obama addressed a joint session of Congress and proposed another round of taxpayer funded stimulus spending as his latest answer to our struggling economy.
"It is unfortunate that President Obama's only answer to our economic crisis is an instant replay of the same failed agenda of stimulus spending, tax increases, and bailouts that destroyed our economy and pushed unemployment above 9 percent," Scalise said. "If the Saints were losing at halftime, Sean Payton would not keep running the same failed plays in the second half; instead he would make the necessary adjustments to get back on track and win the game.
"I spent this last Congressional recess meeting with small business owners throughout Southeast Louisiana, and I heard a recurring theme -- that the biggest obstacles preventing small business owners from creating jobs are the radical rules and regulations coming out of the Obama administration. It is time for President Obama to abandon his failed liberal agenda and work with us on a common-sense approach that will roll back the radical regulations currently preventing small businesses from creating jobs. We need to encourage free trade by passing agreements with Columbia, Panama, and South Korea which would create more than 350,000 American jobs and which already share bipartisan support in Congress, but have been bottled up by President Obama. The House has already passed a package of bills designed to create millions of American jobs, and it is time for President Obama and liberals in the Senate to put their differences aside and work with us so we can create good jobs at home and solve this economic crisis."
