Rokita Votes for Job Creation, Against Federal Overreach

Statement

Date: Sept. 15, 2011

Today Rep. Todd Rokita voted for the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act, legislation Rokita co-authored which prohibits the National Labor Relations Board from its unprecedented efforts to dictate to Americans businesses where they can and cannot do business.

"At a time more than 14 million Americans are unemployed, it is our job to create an environment in which the private sector can create jobs. This straightforward legislation prohibits the NLRB from dictating where private businesses can and cannot locate jobs in the United States. It is little wonder the economy is in bad shape when you consider the Boeing case. We have an American company trying to create jobs in America and we have an agency of the Obama administration trying to prohibit it from doing so.

Businesses hiring Americans in America should be encouraged to do so. For Americans wondering why jobs are going overseas, this is a great example. The regulatory burden imposed on American businesses is forcing them to send jobs overseas so they can stay in business.

We must continue to empower businesses to create jobs, increase investment and keep production capabilities right here at home. Not only will that produce a strong economy, it will protect and grow the middle class. It is disappointing that this law is necessary because we have an administration and a bureaucracy that does not understand that much of our success over the last two centuries can be attributed to the freedom of individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses to make decisions that create jobs and improve the economy for all Americans."

H.R. 2587, the Protecting Jobs From Government Interference Act, prohibits the NLRB from ordering an employer to relocate, shut down or transfer employment under any circumstance. It passed the House today by a margin of 238 to 186.
