Donnelly: New Patent Reform Law Will Foster Economic Growth, Keep Us Competitive

Statement

Date: Sept. 16, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly released the following statement after President Obama signed the bipartisan America Invents Act into law.

"There is no greater priority than creating jobs, and this patent reform law will help in that effort," said Donnelly. "By making the patent system in this country more efficient and reliable, we will encourage the development of new technologies, leading to additional job creation, greater competitiveness in the global marketplace, and, overall, a stronger economy. This law will benefit researchers at Indiana's universities and colleges and innovators at Hoosier economic powerhouses like Cummins, Eli Lilly, Zimmer, and many others. At a time when we're facing too much partisan rhetoric, I'm pleased that on this issue, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle came together to pass this law which will help businesses large and small."

In June, Donnelly joined fellow Blue Dog Coalition member Rep. Boren in offering key support for The America Invents Act in a "Dear Colleague" letter to other members of the House. The legislation passed both the House and Senate with broad, bipartisan support and the president signed it into law earlier today.
