Rep. Johnson Statement in Response to Obama Jobs Speec

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson issued the following statement in response to President Obama's speech on jobs and the economy Thursday evening.

"I applaud the President for his attempts to address the unemployment problems that continue to plague our economy. We can no longer take a business-as-usual approach to our nation's problems, nor a partisan approach to these urgent issues.

"Many of the ideas proposed have been on the table for some time. Plans to rebuild our nation's transportation system, easing burdensome regulations, a fairer tax code - all these are laudable goals. The speech struck the right chords in several of these areas. But I am more interested in details we will learn of in the coming days and the price tag that may affect Americans for generations to come.

"Our country is mired in debt and unemployment. We heard a change of tune tonight. My hope is that the message takes us in a new direction."
