Price Statement on Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act

Statement

Date: Sept. 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2587, theProtecting Jobs from Government Interference Act. This legislation would prohibit the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from ordering any employer to relocate, shut down, or transfer employment under any circumstance.

"The recent action taken by the National Labor Relations Board directly threatens the ability of job creators to grow and expand their businesses. It is Washington once again picking winners and losers in our economy. This does real harm to our economy's ability to recover and prosper," said Chairman Price. "Republicans believe Congress must do all we can to create a positive environment for economic growth. A significant part of those efforts has been our focus on reining in out-of-control bureaucratic agencies that are pursuing a liberal agenda through oppressive regulations despite the costs to American families.

"The Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act represents an important step in alleviating some measure of uncertainty for employers and employees. The federal government must not be allowed to specifically target -- for purely partisan, ideological reasons -- the very folks who are trying to help get our economy back on track. That kind of political economy is extremely dangerous. Many more steps will need to be taken to get the kind of economic growth and job creation we need. It has always been a robust free enterprise system that builds prosperity in our nation. Those freedoms must be protected and preserved."
