Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today applauded the House of Representatives for passing the Empowering Parents through Quality Charter Schools Act (H.R. 2218), legislation that empowers parents and expands access for students to attend high-quality charter schools:
"Strengthening our economy and protecting the American Dream for future generations begins with ensuring our children have access to a high quality education. By encouraging states to expand successful charter schools and removing government barriers that prevent the creation of new ones, this bill empowers parents to take a more active role in their children's education, provides more educational opportunities for students, and gives states, schools and teachers greater freedom to innovate. It's a common-sense measure that deserves prompt consideration by the Senate.
"Led by Chairman Kline, the Education & the Workforce Committee is advancing a series of proposals to reform federal education laws and ensure that all students have access to a quality education. It's my hope that the Administration will work with Congress on these measures, rather than acting unilaterally and undermining reform efforts."
