Rep. Baca's Statement on President Obama's Address to a Joint Session of Congress
Statement
Congressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) released the following statement tonight, after President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress on the topic of job creation.
"With unemployment at 9.1% across the nation, and at a staggering 14.3% in San Bernardino County, the American people needed to hear the President lay out a bold plan of action to create new jobs and strengthen our economic recovery. Tonight, President Obama met these challenges by putting forward a substantial plan that includes the necessary combination of tax incentives and new investments needed to create growth. "
"The proposals laid out by the President in the American Jobs Act include many concrete and achievable policy goals. A long-term payroll tax cut, new incentives for businesses to hire workers, and an extension of unemployment benefits will all help to end uncertainty and spur new economic activity. Likewise, increased federal investments in transportation, infrastructure, job training and education programs will help to create new jobs in the short term, while also laying the foundation for long term growth as we continue to transition to a 21st Century economy."
"Tonight, President Obama called on Congress to come together and confront the challenges we must face in order to bring fiscal stability, create new jobs, and grow our economy over the long term. But we can only overcome the obstacles we face if we move forward with a sense of cooperation and unity. I stand ready to work with all my colleagues -- Democrats, Republicans, and Tea Party Members -- to pass a bipartisan agenda of job creation efforts."

I strongly urge Republicans to put country before party, and work with Democrats in Congress and the President to commit to the bold plan of action American families so desperately need. As the President said - the next election is fourteen months away, and the people who sent us here don't have the luxury of waiting fourteen months. They need help, and they need it now!"
