Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA) tonight released the following statement in response to President Obama's address on jobs.
"The President is right. The American people need jobs and they need them now. His address was fiery, firm, and laid out a sensible bipartisan plan to put people back to work. That plan included many things I support like investments in infrastructure, tax cuts for workers, and aid to small businesses. For too long, Congress has narrowly focused on the fiscal deficit and ignored the jobs deficit. If any issue deserves a singular focus, it is jobs. American families are sick and tired of the rhetoric, hyperbole, and partisanship. Congress is not a debate club--we are duly elected representatives of the people who have a responsibility to take action in times of crisis. There is no excuse not to create jobs in this country. It is time to act."
