Congressman James Lankford (R-OK) issued the following statement after the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.1 percent and zero jobs were created in the month of August.
"Our economy is stuck in neutral," said Congressman Lankford. "For the third year in a row, the unemployment rate has been above 9 percent in the month of August, which clearly shows we are drifting. For far too long, we have relied on stimulus-fueled economic policies that are failing to move our country forward. We need to shift from the philosophy that government creates jobs and begin to seriously examine the regulatory and tax environment that is impeding job growth.
"House Republicans have laid out an agenda for the Fall that encourages our economy to grow by cutting the size of government and providing incentives for businesses to hire new workers. Unfortunately, the House has produced pro-growth legislation that has only sat idle on the steps of the Senate."
