.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) issued the following statement after a federal appeals court ruled today that ObamaCare's individual mandate is unconstitutional, calling it "an unprecedented exercise of congressional power":
"The individual mandate, central to the President's health care law, represents an unprecedented overreach that encroaches on the rights guaranteed to all Americans under the Constitution. Never before have Americans been forced to pay for a product as a condition of existing in the United States. Today's decision by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals is a victory for Americans and their personal liberties. I will continue to fight to repeal and replace this law with commonsense reforms"
The U.S. House of Representatives voted to repeal ObamaCare in January.
In November of 2010, Lummis, along with members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), signed onto an Amicus Brief in support of this legal challenge to ObamaCare. The challenge was brought by 26 states and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
