Congressman Steve Scalise today released the following statement after the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the individual mandate, which was central to President Obama's job-killing health care law, is unconstitutional.

"Today's ruling confirms what we've said all along, that President Obama's health care law is unconstitutional and should be repealed and replaced with real reforms that actually lower costs and fix the problems in health care without the unconstitutional mandates and job-killing taxes in the President's law," Scalise said. "This radical law, which was rammed through Congress by using deceptive budget gimmicks and cutting backroom deals, also includes job-killing taxes, mandates, and reckless regulations that need to be repealed immediately and replaced with real reforms that lower costs while preserving the doctor-patient relationship and increasing options for families and patients. I have fought hard in Congress to pass legislation through the House that will repeal and defund the unconstitutional government takeover of health care and replace it with real reforms that actually lower the cost of health care while fixing the problems so we can improve medical delivery without the unconstitutional mandates and taxes in the current law, and we will continue this fight until we are successful. It is time for the Senate to stop delaying and finally take action, as we have in the House, to repeal this unconstitutional law."
