Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement regarding the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the mandate for individuals to purchase health insurance in the Democrats' healthcare legislation is unconstitutional:
"This ruling is further proof that President Obama's sweeping healthcare reform law goes too far. While we need to significantly reform our healthcare delivery system to make health care more affordable and accessible without sacrificing quality, forcing people to buy insurance is unconstitutional and cannot stand. This unwelcome expansion of federal powers will do nothing to improve the quality and portability of health care. This law should be fully repealed and Congress should get to work on real healthcare reform based on common-sense patient-centered solutions."
NOTE: Congressman Johnson signed an amicus brief to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals asking the Court to rule the healthcare law unconstitutional.
