Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today following President Obama's remarks at the Washington Navy Yard on the Administration's efforts to prepare our nation's veterans for the workforce:
"President Obama and Secretary Shinseki are to be commended for their leadership in working to create jobs for those who have worn our nation's uniform. Today's announcement by President Obama will launch the Administration's latest effort to expand job opportunities for America's veterans and ensure they have the support they need and deserve to enter the civilian workforce.
"Democrats in Congress share the Obama Administration's commitment to increased contracting opportunities for veteran-owned small businesses so they can grow, hire and stimulate our economy. Ensuring that veterans, women, and minorities are given a fair chance to succeed as small business owners develops entrepreneurship and encourages growth.
"Bipartisan legislation introduced by Congressman Sanford Bishop tackles the challenge of veterans employment head-on, helping veterans transition successfully from military service to civilian employment. With training initiatives for veterans and incentives for businesses and government contractors to hire our service members, we are strengthening our troops and their families and the American economy.
"The Obama Administration's efforts underscore our ongoing pledge to our service members: just as they leave no one behind on the battlefield, we will leave no veteran behind when they come home."
