Statement on Cut, Cap and Balance Vote

Statement

Representative Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) issued the following statement today regarding his vote in support of the "Cut, Cap and Balance Act of 2011":

"Tonight, the House of Representatives approved the "Cut, Cap and Balance Act of 2011' which will cut $111 billion from FY2012 spending without cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Veterans or national defense. It will require the passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment before raising the nation's debt limit. The debt limit will only be increased for the short term if a Balanced Budget Amendment gets our fiscal house in order for the long term.

"Washington will finally have to do what families and businesses do every day -- balance the budget. Paying down the debt will mean lower taxes and more higher paying, higher skilled jobs for future generations.

"The President has stated he wants the debt ceiling increased, and my colleagues and I have put a responsible plan on the table that the President should accept and help move through Congress. The President needs to stop kicking this can down the road. Failure to start taking action today dooms our children's and our grandchildren's future.

"The "Cap, Cut and Balance Act' is historic in nature, ambitiously broad in scope and will start our nation on a long path back to prosperity."
