Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) announced this morning that she will support Speaker John Boehner's debt reduction plan, the Budget Control Act of 2011, when it comes to the House floor for a vote later today.
"While this bill is not perfect, it is a good first step toward greater fiscal responsibility and putting our country back on the path to prosperity," Blackburn said. "This bill keeps our promises to the American people by cutting spending more than any increase in the debt ceiling, NOT raising taxes on America's families and job creators during a time of economic hardship, and ensuring an up or down vote on a balanced budget amendment in both the House and Senate.
"My goal has always been to implement Cut, Cap, and Balance, and this bill lays the foundation to get those principles in to the process. It is by no means the final step, but rather a beginning to reining in the out-of-control spending that Washington politicians have ignored for too long."
