U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today blasted the partisan bickering that has caused a partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

"While Washington was busy embarrassing itself with partisan fights over an agreement to reduce our debt and avoid a default crisis, the jobs of tens of thousands of construction workers and nearly 4,000 FAA employees were left hanging in the balance," said Hagan. "At a time when jobs are hard enough to come by, Washington's partisan squabbling shouldn't put thousands of hard-working men and women on furlough. In North Carolina, four construction contracts worth over a million dollars were issued orders to stop work. For North Carolina families struggling to make ends meet, "stop work' are the last words they need to hear right now.

"These Washington games have real world consequences for people in North Carolina and across the country. Our economy suffers every time the two political parties lurch from crisis to crisis. This partial shutdown is costing taxpayers millions of dollars a day. The political parties in Washington need to quit fighting between themselves and start fighting to create the jobs this economy desperately needs."
