Congressman Ander Crenshaw today (8/1) announced he will support the Budget Control Act of 2011- comprehensive legislation that cuts billions of dollars in wasteful government spending and prevents a default on the United States debt without raising taxes. A vote of the measure was expected in the United States House of Representatives on Monday evening, August 1. Crenshaw issued the following statement:
"Make no mistake about it; Republicans have transformed Washington's fiscal ways for good. While the Budget Control Act is not the ultimate solution, this bill changes the culture of runaway spending on Capitol Hill, shrinks the size of government, and preserves the full faith and credit of the United States. And, it does so without raising taxes.
"This bill cuts spending by a larger amount than the debt limit hike, controls future spending, and guarantees a House and Senate vote on a balanced budget amendment. Republicans have removed the blank check from the White House's hands and put the nation on a path to fiscal sanity.
"There is more work ahead, but I stand strong with American families and businesses who have been making tough economic decisions all along. They've worked hard to balance their budgets. They see no reason why Congress can't do the same and neither do I. This is a good start."
