House Armed Services Committee:

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and Ranking Member of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, Susan fully understands America's need for a strong military and the critical role it plays in our national security. In Congress, she has been a consistent advocate for improving the lives of the brave men and women who serve in uniform and their families. Susan's role on the House Armed Services Committee also provides San Diego with a strong voice on one of the most important defense committees in the Congress.

Military Personnel Subcommittee:

Susan was selected by her colleagues as Ranking Member the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel because of her leadership on defense issues and passion for improving the lives of military families. San Diego's unique military community makes Susan an ideal fit for this important position.

Military healthcare, recruitment and retention, and military education fall under the subcommittee's jurisdiction. A leading advocate for military families in San Diego and around the world, Susan joins her colleagues in conducting thoughtful hearings focused on the needs of our service members and their families.

She will continue to work hard for qualitative and quantitative improvements to service pay, benefits, housing, and health care. She firmly believes that our brave men and women returning from deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world deserve the best care possible.

Seapower and Projections Forces Subcommittee:

The Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee has oversight over Navy and Marine Corps programs. Through its authorization for Navy and Marine Corps procurement and R&D efforts, this subcommittee is committed to strengthening the fleet, naval aviation, and providing the Navy and Marine Corps the equipment they need to get their job done. Working on this subcommittee gives Susan the ability to advocate for our men and women locally and ensure our bases are represented at the federal level.

Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee:

The Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee is responsible for counter-terrorism programs and initiatives, counterproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, oversight of U.S. Special Operations Forces and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and information technology and programs. As a member of this subcommittee, Susan is able to advocate for San Diego's special operations community and for commands that focus on information technology.
