John Kline Supports "Budget Control Act"

Statement

Date: July 29, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Kline issued the following statement today after the Budget Control Act passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Budget Control Act would set our nation on a course of living within our means once again:

"Today marks the second time in nine days that the House of Representatives passed a solution to fundamentally change the way Washington spends money while avoiding national default. This legislation would institutionally reform how the federal government spends taxpayer money while preserving the full faith and credit of the United States. While it is far from perfect, the two-step plan includes historic spending cuts and statutory spending controls, ensures a vote on a balanced budget amendment, provides framework for entitlement reform, and includes no tax increases.

"It has been 821 days since the U.S. Senate has passed a budget. While we have offered two proposals in just more than a week to address our country's debt crisis, the Senate still has not offered a single solution. The time is overdue for the Senate to follow our lead and support this legislation to end unsustainable spending -- a barrier to putting Americans back to work -- and put this nation back on a fiscally responsible path."

Congressman John Kline is the Chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee. He also serves on the House Armed Services Committee.
