Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) this afternoon voted against Senator Harry Reid's legislation to raise the U.S. debt limit.
The Reid plan was rejected in the House by a vote of 246-173.
Congressman Bachus said, "Senator Reid's plan would authorize the largest debt ceiling increase in U.S. history without the spending controls essential to restoring fiscal responsibility. What the American people expect is for the federal government to live within its means and balance its budget, just like hard-working families do. As I have said, while the imminent threat to our credit rating is the debt limit, by far the overriding danger is too much government spending."
