Gov. Jon Huntsman released the following statement today regarding President Obama's debt ceiling press conference:
"Tonight President Obama signaled that a trillion dollar tax increase is non-negotiable if we are to increase the debt limit; this position is as reckless as it is misguided. In order to get a deal done, the President must come to the table with a plan that will cut spending commensurate to any increase in the debt ceiling. As Speaker John Boehner has rightly said, now is the time to focus on jobs and economic growth, while making real strides towards solvency and a balanced budget, not rigid adherence to anti-growth tax hikes. Once we have met our obligations, we should turn immediately to pro-growth, revenue neutral tax reform."
