Heller: Obama's Health Care Policies Harm Small Businesses

A survey released today by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) provides further proof that the policies of the Obama Administration continue to have a negative impact on small businesses and economic growth. In response to that survey, Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) offered the following statement.

"One year after this flawed bill was pushed through Congress, we are starting to see how President Obama's health care policies continue to harm small businesses. Small business owners are unable to hire employees and in some instances cannot cover the employees they already have. Unfortunately, this is just another example of how this Administration's policies continue to stifle economic growth," Senator Heller said.

According to the survey results, nearly two-thirds of small business owners agree that the law will result in premium increases but not in better care. For more than one in ten of these businesses, their insurer has either terminated their health insurance plan or indicated that the firm's current plan will not be available in the future.

The survey also revealed that businesses anticipate additional ill effects of the health care law, including increase in paperwork, higher premiums, and higher taxes.

When asked "if a substantial share of employees now participating in your health plan became eligible for a significant government subsidy to pay for health insurance," more than one-quarter of firms now offering coverage (25.9%) said they were very likely to drop coverage and another 31.5% said they were somewhat likely to drop. In total, more than 57% of firms would consider dropping coverage.
