My primary goal in Congress is to change the course of our economy and bring recovery to Ohio. We can regain our economic momentum and vitality .
Despite the recession, all leaders must fight for sustainable jobs in growing industries and Ohioans must be retrained, renewed and reintegrated into sectors such as healthcare, weatherization, and green manufacturing where employment opportunities are expanding. Every time I consider a labor measure, I first ask myself if there are significant training dollars in this bill to help Ohioans return to work.
I was proud to vote for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which provided Cuyahoga County with over $13 Million in funding for worker training. We must also address the millions of chronically unemployed individuals who have been out of work for so long they have stopped seeking employment. If we stop, we have only bandaged our economic wounds.
All training programs must also target and stabilize the chronically unemployed. When we work together to fight for a stronger economy, all Ohioans will win.
