Mayor Cheri Barry announced her endorsement of Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant in his candidacy for governor with a letter posted to Facebook this week.
In the letter, titled, "Why I'm for Phil," Barry said she's endorsing Bryant because she has confidence in his character and judgment and because of his experience as state auditor and lieutenant governor.
"Phil understands that the decisions at the Capitol on High Street in Jackson have a direct impact on businesses and lives on Main Streets around the state," she said in the letter. "He remembers who he serves - the people of Mississippi."
Officials from across the state have used the "Why I'm for Phil" campaign to announce their endorsements.
Bryant, a Republican, has served as lieutenant governor since 2008. He will face numerous other Republican gubernatorial candidates in the August 2 primary election, including Dave Dennis, Hudson Holliday and Ron Williams.
