Nevada State Treasurer Kate Marshall wins nomination with near unanimous consent

The Democratic Party of Nevada picked State Treasurer Kate Marshall to be their nominee in the special election for Congressional District 2. In a vote by the Nevada Democratic Central Committee, Marshall won on the first ballot with near unanimous consent.

Marshall, who has served Nevada as State Treasurer since 2006, has twice been successfully elected statewide. She has been widely credited for saving taxpayer money by uncovering and eliminating no bid contracts and off the book accounts -- that were draining the state's economy. Marshall navigated Nevada through the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, and made the state a profit in every quarter of every year that she has served as Treasurer.

"I am honored to receive this nomination, Nevadans deserve a voice in Congress that will fight for middle class families, and that's what I intend to do. I'll work every day to create jobs in northern Nevada and win the fight to control runaway spending in Washington" said Marshall.

Prior to being elected Treasurer, Marshall served in the Department of Justice Anti-Trust Division where she received the Antitrust Division's Outstanding Contribution Award -- and was the last ever recipient. Marshall then served as the Senior Deputy Attorney General for Nevada, working to prevent price gouging at the gas pump, and protecting Nevada small businesses.

"Kate Marshall is someone that Nevadans can count on. She's watched out for our pocketbooks and fought for our families. We could use Kate Marshall out in Washington," said Elko resident Bob Johnston.
